Renovating your Home?
Discover how you can get the most out of your renovation project Are you planning or in the midst of a major home renovation? While you may have an idea of how you want to design your new space, you may not have put as much thought into how you’re going to decorate it to make it the most livable and comfortable space possible, while getting the most from this sizeable investment in your home. This home is located in the heart of beautiful Lorne Park in Mississauga. This home was completely designed, renovated and decorated inside and out by Jackie Connolly. Jackie’s team of trades made all this possible.
Jackie Connolly worked with her landscapers and designed an oasis in this Mississauga back yard home. Here we have the before and after of the landscaping we removed the over size deck which took up most of the back yard and made the property appear much smaller than it is. The home had four different out side floorings which made the out door space very choppy, and out dated with old design and red interlock, poured cement, square tiles and wooden deck flooring. We eliminated the old wooden flowerbeds that were wore out and falling apart and the wooden ties also crowded the backyard. We installed natural stone stairs and put in a beautiful in style interlock walkway all around the house with natural stone flowerbeds. We used neutral colours that now complement the bricks that are on the house.
Some new shrubs and flowering small trees were added for colour
and great design style.
Front Door
Your front door can make a big impact and great change to your home renovations. Your front door and landscaping sets the stage for curb appeal to your home. The front door of this Mississauga Lorne Park home use to have a single orange door with no light coming into the house. The house was very dark with low ceilings. We installed a beautiful double iron front door. We changed the ceiling, into a cathedral ceiling we also installed a skylight in the front hallway; this made the hallway appear much larger and brighter.
Kitchen Renovations
Your kitchen renovations are one of the most important renovation decisions you can make, because it is the hub of your home. The design challenge of this kitchen was that the kitchen was very long and narrow. The one sidewall was moved back to widen the kitchen, this way we were able to add a full pantry and bar. We also had a built in bar refrigerator installed; this is a great design for entertaining. A large island with a gas cook top with a down draft fan was added to the space. The island has a drop down eating area. This way we were able to elimination the kitchen table. We still have room, if in the future, a kitchen table is needed. This added a better space plan for the homeowners and their life style. We also changed the ceiling in the kitchen into a cathedral ceiling. This made the kitchen feel much larger. We also installed two skylights in this space. We added a wall at the end of the kitchen, which has now allowed us to have a laundry room and butlers pantry. The windows and doors in this house were old and not energy efficient. The window in the kitchen was changed to an awning window replacing a slider, which obstructed the beautiful back yard view. The patio door was changed to a more energy efficient sidling patio door as well. The side door in the kitchen was a solid door, which gave no natural light. A French glass door was installed to let more light in. The old fluorescent lighting was changed into pot lights and a more modern light fixture was put in place. The old vinyl flooring was replaced by this beautiful natural stone slate flooring. This flooring is very durable for this high traffic kitchen.
The living and dining room had parquet flooring, which was replaced by new hardwood flooring. The focal point of this living and dining room is this natural sand stone two-way fireplace, which we kept in its natural state. It was one of the features that the homeowners fell in love with when buying this property. The old lighting wall scones were changed to pot lights and a light fixture was added in the dining room.
Through out the house all interior doors and trim were changed. Jackie Connolly picked out all interior paint colours for all ceilings, walls and doors when the colour consultation took place. Furniture placement and furniture was replaced.
This family room design challenge was that the room felt very low and dark. The room has a chair rail and has crown molding which we kept but we painted the chair rail and the crown molding all the same colour as the wall. The family room has two small windows; we added side panel window drapery treatments in a floor length. This gave height to the room. Therefore we met the design challenge because the room appears much larger.
The basement of this old house had a hot tub. My client wanted the indoor hot tub removed. We removed the hot tub and added new installation to make the home more energy efficient.
The basement design challenge was that the basement was dark and
out dated. The room had dark wood paneling and dark wood
cabinets. The room also has a lot of doors. The flooring had a wall to wall
orange carpet from the 60’s. We painted the paneling, and all the doors and trim the same colour as the walls. We painted the ceiling a soft white; we also painted the wood cabinets in a warm cream. We added some pot lights because the room did not have enough lighting.
